REACH FOR INDEPENDENCE

HMEA’s 2014 Independence 5K Race and Walk, Roll & Stroll was wildly successful this year, and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help. Over 2200 people came to walk, run, volunteer, and support the 3800 children and adults supported by HMEA’s 640 staff. We even made the news!

Worcester Public Access channel, WCCA’s “Soap Box”program and hosted by Mauro DePasquale interviewed Michael Moloney and Richard French. Both Mr. Moloney and Mr. French spoke about their respective agency’s work and how each agency provides services and supports to children and adults with disabilities. Mr. Moloney also spoke about the rise in cases of children diagnosed with autism and issues associated with raising a child with autism.

January 28, 2014 – Leaders from Human Service providers, Worcester Public Schools, the ARC, Legislators, and disability nonprofits in Central Massachusetts gathered for the first ever Autism Summit to discuss the state of services for adults with autism, and begin a conversation about collaborating to prepare for the growing numbers entering the adult services system.

We are proud to announce HMEA has again received the highest DDS survey rating of a Two Year License for our Employment, Shared Living/ Residential Services.
DDS Office of Quality Enhancement surveyors say “since last year HMEA has continued to refine its quality management systems to strengthen safeguards for the men and women supported. Findings from the current survey indicate that the agency oversight systems were both responsive and effective.”
The agency met 100% percent of the licensing indicators in Residential and 96% of the licensing indicators in Day/Employment services.
