Harriett has been attending HMEA’s employment services program since 2014 and has been working at Family Behavioral Health (FBH) since 2016. She immigrated to the United States from Ghana and currently resides in Worcester, MA, where most of her family is located.
Tell us about what you do at FBH.
I work as part of a team of people who are responsible for keeping the facilities clean. Honestly, I’ll do anything that I’m asked to do, because I recognize that keeping my job is dependent on me doing good work.
What’s your favorite thing about working at FBH?
My favorite thing about working at FBH is that I’ve learned how to be part of a team. For example, I’m a fast learner, and I have to remind myself that not everybody learns at the same pace. I’ve become more understanding of others who have different strengths and weaknesses, and I’ve learned how to be more patient when others don’t pick up on things as quickly. Plus, I get to work with my “brother” and “sister”, Felix and Sam!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to watch TV, crochet, and travel! I recently spent two months in Ghana with my parents and other family members. I also love eating at restaurants, especially Chinese food.
Who do you like to spend time with outside of work?
Mostly my family. It’s a little hard to see them all because two of my siblings live in Arizona, but I’m glad I have family in Worcester, including my son who just graduated from college.
